Rare Disease Day

Rare Disease Day takes place every year on the last day of February and to mark the day we blogged about the importance of patient voices in our efforts to establish a register of rare diseases.

Community approaches to health and wellbeing

On Friday PHE's Kevin Fenton blogged about community centred approaches to health and wellbeing, which he describes as a public health game changer.

New alcohol profiles

This week we released the latest update to the Local Alcohol Profiles for England data tool, which includes data showing fewer adults dying from conditions directly caused by alcohol, but deaths from related conditions, such as cancer rising by 1%. For the first time, the tool includes data on alcohol-related road traffic accidents.

Investing in prevention

We published the second instalment in a new blog series looking at investing in prevention, this time focussing on cost-effectiveness. We'll be publishing the third blog in the series next week so why not subscribe to receive email updates each time we blog by selecting 'sign up for updates' in the sidebar?

NHS Health Check conference 2016

This week was our annual NHS Health Check conference, held at The Oval in London. We used the opportunity to promote key related resources including our Healthier Lives tool and plan that outlines work to prevent, detect and treat high blood pressure. You can also read a blog from Professor Kevin Fenton on the NHS Health Check programme and the importance of preventing and detecting disease before it harms people's health.

Salt Awareness Week

We've been supporting Salt Awareness Week, sharing info and stats on salt intake for both adults and children, as well as reminding people that eating too much salt increases risk of heart disease and stroke. Get more information on how to cut down your salt intake from NHS Choices.

Chlamydia

Viewers of Eastenders may have seen a recent storyline focusing on chlamydia and we've been promoting the importance of testing this week. Get more information on symptoms, testing and treatment from NHS Choices.
