Katie Carmichael

Katie Carmichael is currently the International Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at Public Health England. In this role she works with teams across the organisation as well as external partners to coordinate requests to PHE for urgent international public health assistance. Prior to joining the team she worked with the Extreme Events team at PHE and focused on developing national plans to prepare for, respond to and recover from natural hazards such as heatwaves, cold weather and flooding.

An Emergency Department nurse by background, Katie spent a number of years working in the NHS before joining The Non-Governmental Organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Whilst with MSF she worked in a number of countries (including Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sri Lanka) in both nursing and field coordinator roles before returning to the UK to pursue her MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
