Tim Gant is Head of the Toxicology Department at PHE's Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards. Tim Gant started his career with training at the School of Pharmacy, University of London. Seeking new horizons he moved from there to the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda Maryland USA, just outside Washington DC. This was a seminal time spent working on new understanding in the manner by which cancers develop resistance to chemotherapeutic treatment, a real toxicological and cancer treatment issue. Taking the plunge to return to the UK he worked for many years at the Medical Research Council where he achieved tenure. Seeking a more translational agenda he moved to Public Health England in 2011 building on a strong belief that healthy lives start first with disease prevention. Tim Gant holds a visiting Professorship at the University of Surrey and serves with other organisations such as the Health and Environmental Sciences Institute of Washington DC. Further afield he teaches at the Chulabhorn Graduate Institute in Bangkok, Thailand from where is has recently returned and is now feeling rather cold.
