Childhood cancer statistics – what can we learn from new data?
Cancer in children under the age of 15 is rare and accounts for less than 1% of all new cancer cases in England. Around 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer each year.

Lucy Irvine is a senior analyst in Public Health England’s National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service. She currently focuses on projects related to childhood cancer. Lucy has worked in the cancer statistics field for ten years. Prior to joining PHE she worked for Cancer Research UK, and before that she worked for government organisations in education. Lucy is interested in the analysis of public health data from multiple treatment, patient management and diagnostic sources to build a real-world picture of patient experience and outcomes across the cancer pathways, and is dedicated to making public health information useful for variety audiences.
