Emma Aarons

Emma is a Consultant Virologist and Infectious Disease Physician at the Rare and Imported Pathogens Laboratory (RIPL), PHE Porton, where she provides advice on the diagnosis and management of a wide range of unusual or hazardous viral and bacterial infections.

Following joint training in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology and Virology she spent 10 years as a Consultant Virologist in the NHS, first at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and then at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. During this period she participated in development of national and local Viral Haemorrhagic Fever guidance, but it was not until 2013 that she was finally able to fully indulge her fascination with travel-associated, hazardous and unusual infections by joining the clinical team at RIPL.
